Islamism and Radical Islam Analyzed in New Report

Hudson Institute's Center on Islam, Democracy, and the Future of the Muslim World has announced the release of Current Trends in Islamist Ideology—the first in series of analytical reports on the ideological dimensions of Islamism and radical Islam worldwide.

Edited by Hudson senior fellow Hillel Fradkin, Husain Haqqani of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Hudson research associate Eric Brown, the report provides up-to-date expert analysis of contemporary manifestations of the ideologies that drive terrorist groups and their sympathizers to target Muslims and non-Muslims at home and abroad.

In their introduction to the report, Fradkin and Haqqani stress that, because the war of ideas is central to the struggle against Islamist terrorism, a thorough and proper understanding of Islamist ideology is critical to the "successful prosecution of that struggle … In part this is because the objectives and tactics of the terrorists derive to some extent from their ideological orientation. In part it is because ideology plays a very large role in the recruitment and training of new members of terrorist organizations."
